But let’s deep into the description of the package. Just keep in mind that we are going to define the final program according to your needs and expectations.

Birdwatching vacation package

An idea of the program for this package can be:

Day 1:

From Hotel de Campo in Caño Negro, we will be driving to La Fortuna.

This same day, we are going to Pocosol Ranger Station at La Tigra de San Carlos. You will walk along the trails of the natural reserve and having lunch at the ranger station.

Costarican birds that you may see at Pocosol can be WHITE-FRONTED NUMBIRD, RUFOUS VENTED GROUND CUCKOO, BARE NECKED UMBRELLABIRD, OCELLATED ANTBIRD, WHITE COLLARED MANAKIN, LONG-TAILED TYRANT.

For the night, we have prepared a night tour to spot frogs and reptiles.

Day 2.

Full day getting nuts birding and photography. 

Day 3.

We will dedicate all morning birding and photography at the Observatory Lodge Private Reserve.

Few species that quite easy to observe in La Fortuna are COLLARED ARACARI, YELLOW THROATED TOUCAN, SCARLET THIGHED DACNIS, EMERALD TANAGER, SPECKLED TANAGER, RUFOUS MOT MOT.

And after lunch, we are going to Monteverde. We will be there for dinner and a relaxing night.

Day 4.

In Monteverde, we will visit some “out of the box” places. In Costa Rica, and especially in Monteverde, we have so many forests, that are better biding where you will find fewer tourists and more birds.

One of the places we like to explore is the private natural reserve Curi-Cancha. 

There, we are going to look at the RESPLENDENT QUETZAL, BLUE THROATED TOUCANET, WHITE EARED GROUND SPARROW, COLLARED REDSTART, THREE WATTLED BELL BIRD, LONG-TAILED MANAKIN within many others species.

For the afternoon, we planned lunch and walking at the private natural reserve San Luis.

The day will finish in the late afternoon, so you can continue your birding route Costa Rica.

Roseate spoonbill preening, Birding in Costa Rica at the National Refuge of Caño Negro
The Roseate Spoonbill is a regular visitor at the Refuge of Cano Negro. The roseate spoonbill can be found in marshes and water habitats, and this is the predominant ecosystem of Caño Negro Refuge. They are easy to recognize for their distinctive pink coloring, wading in very shallow water. Mostly you will find them looking for food, stirring their bills in the shallow water. They eat whatever comes in touch with their bill, mostly fish, crustaceans, frogs, and snails. In Costa Rica, Roseate Spoonbill is resident and migrant. They fly around the country looking for wetland with shallows water, where they can easily feed.
